NA4: Standardization

“Remote instrumentation” activities would be activities focusing on remote instrumentation. That would, for example, include the following activities:

  • Give the possibility to perform interactive experiments on complex remote-laboratory structures;
  • Share real and virtual laboratory instrumentation in a collaborative environment.

Coordination of such activities would mean looking after these activities so that they are running smoothly. Therefore, this networking activity does not only go hand in hand with the dissemination activity (which includes teaching users how to use the middleware), but also has the goal of setting up appropriate standardization bodies, such as a research group at the OGF.

In order to succeed with standardization, it is necessary to attack the problem on both a political and a technical level. The technical solution makes sure that the middleware fulfils criteria yet to be defined, the political level makes sure that the technical solution is actually deployed.
